We have been after another plot for a while, and the other week we finally had notice from the Allotment association secretary that there was one coming up, so we jumped at the chance.
One of the many problems though, is that it is the other end of the allotments, so there is going to be a lot of walking involved bringing tools back and forth as there is no shed on it, actually, there isn't anything on it. The guy that had it before us (he only had it a year) took everything with him including his fruit trees, and left massive creators where they once where. Another problem is that its at the bottom of the hill, so it floods very easily. Yet another problem is the amount of rubble hardcore and broken glass. You can hardly dig down in the top half of the patch because there is so much rubble actually in the ground that if you tried to you would either break a spade or break a bone. So we have decided to make the top part a small orchard.
Part of the area where the orchard is going to be are some trees that have been cut down and have been left as stumps. We don't know if these have been treated or not to stop them from growing, but if it comes to it, we will treat them if the need be. They look like they could have been black thorn.
I have started to fence off (with very low fencing) the area with the stumps as I am going to make a fairy city. I will post a picture of the planned are soon (I should be doing it today at some point).
Jay sorted out an area for the compost bin and also an area to store wood. So once all the cages up at the top allotment are made, there will be no need for all the wood to be up that end , so over time, all the wood from the top site will be moved to the storage area on the new plot, which will make things on the top plot look a lot more tidy.
Erm ..... what else have we done ... erm .... Ohhh, placed a few paving slabs on the new plot to make a path through the middle of it, Jay made some raised beds for the new plot, I cleared some of the rubble off the new plot, just to tidy it all up. Also took a load of cutting from the Goji berry and rosemary. I know, probably the wrong time of year for it, but we will see what happens.
